Saafyr's Dropping Gems

May Newsletter: Emerald Edition

Checking in….

Welcome, Gems 💎

To my new subscribers — whether we met through an open mic, a healing space, a local event, or simply crossed paths in passing — I am grateful our energies found one another. You are entering a chapter of my life where my actions are beginning to speak louder than my words… even though internally, I still have so much to say.

To my returning readers — thank you. Your loyalty, patience, prayers, messages, and honesty have carried me more than you know. Some of you have written to me with such softness and truth that it has brought me to tears. If I have not responded yet, please do not take it personally. Some days I revisit messages with intention, and other days I feel overwhelmed just trying to hold myself together long enough to search for the right words. Still, I am receiving your love deeply, and it has been helping soften some very hard blows.

I discovered this beautiful person on YouTube and their amazing energy peaks for itself. I pray you enjoy.

As I shared last month, I have been stepping back from writing so deeply because I am deeply recovering. I am learning that healing is not linear, and sometimes survival changes the way your voice shows up. Right now, my recovery journey has led me to [ Click to visit: CODA — Co-Dependents Anonymous ] — a space where people from all walks of life gather to heal addictions rooted in relationships, abandonment, trauma, and the longing to feel chosen, safe, and connected to something greater than ourselves.

Through this work, I have been uncovering layers of grief connected to broken relationships, childhood wounds, and cycles I normalized for far too long. I am beginning to understand how abandonment shaped the way I loved, attached, overextended, and stayed too long in places that hurt me.

One of the hardest truths I am facing is recognizing that I survived relationship violence while still deeply loving the person who harmed me. Somewhere inside of me, my longing to be loved became tangled with my longing to finally feel chosen. That realization has been devastating, liberating, and clarifying all at once.

I am grieving what safety should have looked like throughout my life.

I am grieving the ways I learned to abandon myself while begging others not to abandon me. I am learning that love should never require me to disappear, but always step back to observe - not absorb.

Happy Mother's Day to you all those able to celebrate. Family feels complicated to me right now. Trust feels scary right now. I am battling the urge to isolate because of how much help I need — and how difficult it feels to ask for it. Wendy feels a little lost, and I have to help parent her more.

So for now, I leave you with this:

Your favorite gem dropping jewels on your crown,

The primary birthstone for May is the emerald, a precious gemstone in the beryl mineral family known for its vibrant green color. Symbolizing rebirth, love, and fertility, emeralds are believed to bring foresight, good fortune, and youth to their owners. They represent the lush green of spring and are often associated with growth and renewal.
Key Facts About Emeralds:
  • Color: Ranging from light to deep green, colored by chromium and vanadium.
  • Symbolism: Traditionally linked to love, wisdom, and growth.
  • Origin: The finest emeralds are famously sourced from Egypt, Colombia, with other deposits in Brazil, Zambia, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.
  • Hardness: Rated \(7.5 - 8\) on the Mohs scale, but often contain inclusions that make them prone to cracking; they require gentle care (avoiding ultrasonic cleaners).
  • Alternative: Agate is sometimes considered a traditional alternative.
Cultural Significance:
Emeralds were adored by ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Incas, and Aztecs, and were the favorite stone of Cleopatra. The name "emerald" is derived from the Greek smaragdus, meaning "green stone".
Common Uses:
Emeralds make for popular jewelry, including rings, necklaces, and earrings, often in the specialized "emerald cut". They are also traditionally given for 20th and 35th wedding anniversaries.
Green stones for the heart chakra (Anahata) are used to open, balance, and heal emotional wounds, promoting love, compassion, and inner peace. Key green stones include Green Aventurine (opportunity/luck), Emerald (compassion/growth), Jade (harmony/balance), Malachite (emotional transformation), and Green Tourmaline (emotional healing).
  • Green Aventurine: Known as a stone of opportunity, it aids in releasing old patterns and welcoming new growth, often used for emotional well-being.
  • Emerald: A powerful, traditional stone that helps balance heart energy, fosters nurturing, and promotes emotional balance.
  • Green Jade: Known for encouraging wisdom and deep emotional balance, it is ideal for fostering, nurturing, and stable relationships.
  • Malachite: A striking green stone often used for protection and to help facilitate emotional growth and healing.
  • Green Tourmaline: Used for fostering love, compassion, and personal growth.
  • Moss Agate: Often called the "gardener's stone," it fosters a deep connection with nature and emotional stability.
These stones can be used during meditation, placed directly on the chest, or worn as jewelry to maintain an open and healthy heart center.

Taurus (earth) and Gemini (air) compatibility is generally low, as they represent different speeds and values: stability vs. spontaneity. While Taurus seeks routine and security, Gemini thrives on change and social interaction. They can create a "best of both worlds" scenario if they bridge their differences, allowing Taurus to provide grounding while Gemini adds fun.
